Halloween Activities & Events

Just thought I would list a few events and activities related to the upcoming Halloween season.  There are reviews for a couple of these but it is more of just a listing to see what is around to do.  Please let us know if there is any out there that you feel should be added to the list.

Halloween For Kids


Taves Family Farms Applebarn
Open all year with a variety of attractions and u-pick fruit, this family owned and run farm offers a great pumpkin patch at Halloween. Although most the attractions are for younger kids there is a little something there for everyone.

Halloween at the Burnaby Central Railway
One of the top Vancouver attractions for toddlers (and all ages) is the incredible, miniature Burnaby Central Railway, a non-profit labour-of-love run by the volunteers of the British Columbia Society of Model Engineers (BCSME). The Railway closes for its summer season on Thanksgiving, but opens for one-night-only on Halloween for nighttime train ride little kids will love.

Halloweenie at the Granville Island Kids Market
One of the few free Vancouver Halloween Attractions for Kids, the annual Halloweenie party at Granville Island's famous Kids Market includes a Halloween Balloon Hunt, crafts, games, and a free hotdog and beverage for kids who come in their costumes.

Pirate House in Burnaby
New for 2013, this local project / labour of love--designed by Burnaby resident "Captain Julie" to celebrate pirates and raise funds for St. Stephen's Children's Centre in Uganda--lets kids explore a pirate-themed house complete with a pirate cemetery for famous pirates like Davy Jones.

The Laity Pumpkin Patch has been a family run agri-tourism business for over 20 years.  Every October they have vistors from all over the Lower Mainland come to their patch to find the "perfect pumpkin".

The Pumpkin Patch at Richmond Country Farms
For the young and young at heart! Hay rides, a corn maze, farm animals and Polly Pumpkin, Strawberry Shortcake and Korny Corn.

Great family fun including a kiddy bale maze, corn maze, corn (sand) box, pumpkin patch, animal viewing area and u-pick apples.

This 60 acre working organic farm in Pemberton offers horse drawn wagon rides out to their pumpkin patch.

Stanley Park Ghost Train
When it comes to all-ages Vancouver Halloween fun, you can't beat the Stanley Park Ghost Train! Every year, Stanley Park's Miniature Train transforms itself into the Ghost Train for a magical ride through the nighttime forest. The ride takes visitors past creative and (gently) spooky tableaux created by the amazing performers of Mortal Coil, which, though aimed at kids 10 and under, are fun for the whole family.

Fright Nights at Playland: Vancouver
Western Canada’s Scariest Haunt. Face your fears. Fright Nights possesses Playland from October 11 to November 2 and features 6 fright houses, 12 rides, and the freaky sideshow, The Monsters of Schlock.

Zombie Combat Zone
The Zombie Combat Zone lets you hunt zombies after dark, in a live-action paintball game. Last year, the Zombie Combat Zone debuted in Surrey; it is now located at Semiahmoo Park, in White Rock. Must be booked in advance, and must be at least 16 to participate!

Dunbar Haunted House
Though it began as just a neighbourhood haunted house, Dunbar Haunted House has become one of the top Vancouver Halloween attractions; be warned, this genuinely scary house isn't appropriate for young children (especially after 7pm, when the live actors come out)!

Vancouver Haunted Trolley Tours
Aimed at visitors 13 and older, Vancouver Haunted Trolley Tours explore Vancouver's creepiest spots, including Mountain View Cemetery and the autopsy room of the Vancouver Police Museum. Tours last 2.5 hours and run daily; pre-registration is required.

Parade of Lost Souls: Secret Souls Walk & Parade of Lost Souls Dance Party
For many years, the Parade of Lost Souls on Commercial Drive was the Vancouver Halloween event: the procession / parade of ghouls and ghosts was the destination for people who took their Halloween seriously. But Public Dreams, the organizers of the Parade of Lost Souls, became overwhelmed by the size of the event and have, starting in 2010, scaled down the procession considerably.
