Overview:

Sushi Royal House is a fun and welcoming place to enjoy simple, fresh and delicious food crafted using a combination of Japanese ingredients and fresh products.

Thoughts:
Nice and clean on the inside. Quick service and decent prices. The parking lot was a bit tight and a lot of reserved parking making it hard to find a spot.

Pros:

Decent food for a decent price and close to the Skytrain.

Small parking lot making it hard to find parking.

Bentei Sushi: Burnaby

Thoughts:

Super friendly service and very quick. The prices are also on the lower end which is good for the quality of the food. The rolls were decent size and the rice and roll contents were very good but the seaweed wrap was a bit chewy.

The restaurant was a little unsettling from the outside and the inside looks like an old diner but very clean.

Pros:

Other than the seaweed the food was good and the prices were even better.

Cons:

Chewy seaweed on the wraps and looks a little rough.

Thoughts:

Small place with limited parking but quite a few seats.  Very busy at lunch and had to wait a fair bit of time to even be seated.

Nice decor and very clean looking.

Lots of seating and better location is decent for people in the area.

Overview:

Exquisite Menu and Ambience is a matter of pride. They serve both South and North Indian cuisine and have more than 25 varities of dosa to choose from.

Thoughts:
Very busy and small area. Quite a bit of group seating though. The outside does not look like much and doesn't get too much better. The service was quick but it took a bit to get the food after ordering. Probably because of the number of patrons.

The prices were not cheap and not too expensive.  More like high mid range.

Pros:

Good food and welcoming atmosphere. 

Cons:

Terrible parking lot and small interior.

Great prices and very decent food. Perahps not the best tasting but more than acceptable and what little that is lost for flavour is made up for in portion size.

Nice and open with a good selection of drinks. Not a large space bit clean and able to accommodate groups.

Staff was super friendly and service was quick.

Norland Grill: Burnaby

Overview:

Family run diner serving breakfast and lunch to local workers.  Located in the heart of Burnaby, this small restaurant gives you fast service with good food.

Thoughts:
All new interior gives the place a nicer feel than before (see Cafe Burger Time). The prices and food seemed have remained the same though.

Still wouldn't go out of my way to eat there but would not object if someone else recommended it.

Pros:

Only restaurant in the area and newly renovated.

Cons:

Food was just ok and price a little high. Nothing special really.

Black Forest Restaurant: Harrison Hot Springs

Thoughts:
Nice rustic German decor and atmosphere.  Restaurant was clean and serving staff was beyond friendly.

Menus prices are a little above average but the portion sizes definitely makes up for that.  Great tasting food and a wonderful atmosphere make this a must when in Harrison.

Nice place and great food along with a wonderful staff.

Cons:

Rather pricey like most places in Harrison.

Kita Sushi: Burnaby

Thoughts:
Clean and plain id best to describe the inside of the restaurant. The pricing is pretty average but the taste is above average.  The rolls had minimal filling and a lot of rice. The seaweed wrap was very chewy.I don't think this is a place I would try again with better choices in the area.

The rolls are on the smaller side which probably helps keep the price down.

Pros:
One of the few good sushi options in the area. The food tastes good and is not too expensive.

Cons:
Smaller portion sizes. Small interior making it very busy at times and might be better for take out.

Thoughts:
Nice place with good food and a good selection of beers. Unfortunately they were out of some of the advertised brands and seeing how it was a Tuesday at lunch I am guessing that tgey ran out on the weekend and didn't bother getting more.

The food was good and the large portions made the above average price seem ok.

There didn't seem to be a lot of seating but based on it's location I don't see it getting too busy.

It was ok if you are in the area but could probably find better a short drive away.

Pros:
Good menu of food and drinks.

Cons:
Above average price and seemed out of stock on a few beverages.

James St Cafe and Grill: Burnaby

Overview:

James Street Café & Grill boasts an array of dishes that are characteristic of East African cuisine with a hint of Western fusion. Your taste buds will take you on a journey to Dar es Salaam, Nairobi and Kampala, although you will really be on the border of Vancouver and Burnaby at Canada Way and Boundary Rd.

Thoughts:
Not the cheapest place around but definitely one of the better tasting. A good selection of both Indian and Western cuisines,  Jame St. Cafe and Grill will have sonething for everyone.  The burgers are big and flavorful and came with a good serving of fries. The butter chicken was very tasty as well, not too spicy but very good and filling.

We did get our menus relatively quickly but after that the service slowed exponentially.   After we got the orders placed the food came quick but then had to ask for the bill after waiting at the empty table. Thia has happened on a few visits.

Pros:
Good food and nice size portions.

Cons:
Above average prices and slow service.

Miki Sushi Japanese Bistro: Burnaby

Sushimoto: Burnaby

Overview:

Sushi Moto is a small, funky restaurant tucked away next to the Holdom Skytrain Station off of Lougheed Highway. The restaurant has an interesting selection of sushi and other Japanese inspired menu items as well as quite the collection of characters and other figurines  in a display case and decorating the walls.

Thoughts:
The rolls were not large but the rice layer was thin making more room for the better stuff. The food tasted good but the price is a little higher than average. There is also a good selection of specialty rolls if you are in the mood.

Decor was different, everything said Japanese except the movie and sports action figures in a large display at the bar seating. Would recommend this place if you are in the Holdom area and wanting sushi but there is better within a 15 minute drive.

Pros:

A decent option in the Holdom area of Burnaby. Nice restaurant and good food.

Cons:

Not really near anything so unless you are in the area it is out of the way. Not the cheapest but not too expensive, especially for what you get.

Cafe Burger Time: Burnaby

Overview:
Family run diner serving breakfast and lunch to local workers.  Located in the heart of Burnaby, this small restaurant gives you fast service with good food.

Thoughts:
Decent food but a little above average prices. Had a burger and it was pretty big but the patty itself was lacking and there was a good amount of fries.

The interior is clean but old. Not somewhere you would go on a date but ok for lunch or breakfast during the week. It caters primarily to local workers as hours are only 6am to 4pm Monday to Friday.

Definitely would not go out of my way to eat here but it is edible and works if you are in the area and looking for something quick.

Pros:

Only restaurant in the area.

Cons:

Food was just ok and price a little high. Nothing special really.

Mario's Kitchen: Tsawwassen

Overview:
Mario's Kitchen is located on the main drag of Tsawwassen.  Friendly staff, great food and a energetic atmosphere make this a great place to stop and have a meal.

Thoughts:
This is a nice little restaurant on the main drag in Tsawwassen.  The food was great and the price wad average.   It has is smaller inside with not a lot of seating but enough that you shouldn't need to wait for a spot. Definitely recommend this one if you are looking for a simple well made meal.

Pros:

Good food and great atmosphere. The food is well priced for what you get.

Hard to find unless you know what your looking for

Gasthaus on the Lake: Peachland

Overview:

Located in the heart of the Okanagan, 20 minute drive from Kelowna and 25 minute drive from Penticton, the Gasthaus on the Lake pub and restaurant provides a year round dining destination.  Whether it’s for the beautiful garden patio in the summer or the famous medieval feasts in the winter months, you are sure to have an unforgettable experience at the Gasthaus.

Thoughts:

This is a nice restaurant in a great location.  We did the Medieval Feast and the foods was good.  The price of the feast was not exactly worth the amount of food you could eat, especially if you did not plan on staying all night.  The display and decor was great and the atmosphere was perfect.  The staff was extremely friendly and the dinner and appetizer was delicious.  The desert (ice cream and apple fritters) though was definitely lacking, the fritters were pretty bland tasting as I did not get any apple taste out of it.

As well it wasn't enough that we were charged for the meals but we asked for just ice cream for a child (the dinner comes with the endless ice cream and fritters) but because the ice cream came in a separate dish and had to pay extra, should have just got another round of fritters to throw out.

I liked the place and would return to try the restaurant out and not the feast.

Pros:

Good food and great atmosphere.  Nice location.

Cons:

A bit on the high side for the price of the feast for the average party.

Overview:

Thoughts:
Nice place with a relaxing atmosphere. The portion sizes were larger than expected and the food was good.  The menu selection was diverse and there was all day breakfast. No website though so you need to get their information from Facebook.

Pros:

Atmosphere was good and the staff was friendly.  Large portions.

Cons:

Wasn't the cheapest place around and no website makes it hard to get any information regarding menus and hours.

Swiss Gourmet Restaurant: Harrison Hot Springs

Overview:
Based within the Hot Springs Villa Hotel, this quaint restaurant offers a German/Swiss cuisine mixed with some west coast favourites.  Enjoy the food and drinks in either the open restaurant or on the patio overlooking the beach at Harrison Hot Springs.

Thoughts:
The staff was friendly and the taste of the food was ok but the downsides definitely outweighed the upsides.  The portions of food were smaller than expected, I could have counted the number of fries on my fingers, and the price was too high for both quality and quantity of the food.  The interior could use some updating as well as the tables and chairs inside were looking old.  I would not recommend this restaurant especially given the other choices in such close proximity in the same price range.

ChongQing Restaurant: Vancouver

ChonQing is a nice little Szechuan restaurant in Vancouver, offering a variety  of Chinese dishes for both lunch and dinner.  The Commercial Dr. location is walking distance from the SkyTrain station and is the largest location. The other Vancouver location on Robson St. is the smallest but probably the best location for accessibility and the Burnaby restaurant is across the street from Metrotown Mall on Kingsway.

Cost
The price for lunch was a bit expensive around $9 per plate but the portions were enough to fill you for sure.

Thoughts
It is only assumed that all the locations are similar in décor and taste as the Commercial Dr. restaurant. Overall it is a nice restaurant, the food was good the décor looked to be recently updated and looked very modern. The service was not what I was used to, not that the people were rude but other than taking the order and delivering the food we did not see the staff.  Maybe this is part of the atmosphere they are trying to create. The price was a bit high but the portions were huge.  I would definitely visit again given the opportunity.

Sockeye City Grill: Steveston

Sockeye City Grill is located on the waterfront in Steveston B.C. They serve only the freshest of wild B.C. Seafood. Live lobster and Crab from their Crab tank are a local favorite and are available daily.

Thoughts:
Nice setting on the board-walk in Steveston Village. The food varied in quality as the cod was not the best but the halibut and salmon were very good. Your choice of indoor and outdoor dining gives you the option for enjoying the sun or staying cooler inside on the hotter days. The staff was friendly and seemed knowledgeable about the food. The layout of the inside was tiered giving most tables a good view of the waterway.

Pros:
Great location with plenty of things to see as you eat. The food was good and there was definitely enough on each plate.

Cons:
It was a bit expensive for the food and the restaurant seemed crowded with the different levels and walkways alongside the table.
